-----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- ----------  ----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- Anniversary Post...

Friday, February 18, 2005

Last night was our 13 months wedding anniversary... since we were in Antigua during our first year Anniversary, I thought that a proper anniversary post with a proper wedding photo was in order.

We celebrated like any other normal couple would: first we watched the apprentice and then ER. Did I mention pizza, chicken wings and soda? Life is good.

Happy Anniversary to us...

-----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- ----------  ----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- Our Anniversaries...

Thursday, November 18, 2004

Last night was our 10 Months Wedding Anniversary, but in addition it was also our 4 years of "Being Together" Anniversary...

Four years ago, DB took me out to dinner to celebrate my birthday; what started as friendly get together sparked the beginning of something else. Then, 5 days later DB formally asked me out on a date. On, November 17, 2000 he picked me up at my old place and brought 3 beautiful English roses with him, they were nicely wrapped, they were short, small and very delicate (I still have them, somewhere). Then, we went off to see The Grinch and from that moment on we have been together ever since.

Who would have thought! We met 3 years before our very first date while working for the same client, and then 3 years later we met again without knowing we were going to spend the rest of our lives together. Happy Anniversary-ies my love!

At Work

3/3/2004

Hi Bianca & Darren,

Hope all is well with you all.

Here are a few photos I thought you would like.

Bianca in these pictures you can se some of your more casual guests.

Anyway, the photo of the lady singing was during her performance of what you described as your favorite song {Spanish song "Yo tengo un nuevo amor, Jesus mi salvador". Translation: "I have a new love, Jesus my savior"}. Quite a beautiful photo. The little girl dancing {Megan} was also quite cute. She was all alone on the dance floor for a few songs. Sweet...

Well enjoy.

Love

D.

Last night we got the final prints from our engagement photo shoot. The prints came out pretty good. I could not believe their color and quality.

What a wonderful gift! Jonathan did a fantastic job.

We got several 4x6 and  5x7 of our favorite photos and a beautiful 8x10 of the photo featured in our main page (see it again below). Later during the day, Jonathan sent me a black and white digital copy of the the same photo, and in addition to the wonderful collection of engagement photos that he gave us as a wedding gift, he'll have the black and white photo printed on watercolor paper. I can't wait to see the results.

We have closed our Macy's Bridal registry - what a fun experience that was. This has been thus far the biggest shopping experience of our lives. We added some new items, substituted and removed some others, and at the end we brought home all the things we wanted. We got great discounts and even a nice gift.

We got the professional photo proofs! - and they are fantastic! Now the big selection begins!

-----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- ----------  ----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- Where are the wedding photos?...

Tuesday, February 3, 2004

I'm still working on the wedding pictures. I thought I was going to be pretty much all set by now, but it's going to take a while.

Sorry, but I work full time and I just got married - you know ;-)

To see the two photos that I posted last week, click on the January archives. Below I'm posting 2 more pictures. You know the trick, place the mouse on top of the photo for a little surprise.

People keep asking me about wedding pictures, so as we go thru our digital photos and classify them, re-size them, re-sort them etc. etc. etc. - I've decided to give you a little preview; hint, hint - place the cursor on top of  the picture. Have a good weekend everyone!

It's hard to believe that we have been married for almost 2 weeks now (14 days tomorrow, but who is counting). We keep receiving e-mails, cards and messages from friends and family, not to mention gifts. I'm still amazed by people's generosity. Today we got 2 very generous gifts from the same person. We are speechless!!!

We also have so many lunch, dinner and get-together offers from so many friends, that we have enough to keep us busy until May - when hopefully we will go away in our honeymoon. Did I mention that our Honeymoon has been postponed? Well it has, DB is starting a new project next week, so rather than taking a little honeymoon break on February, we'll do so sometime in May.

We are also working on putting together all our wedding photos. So come back in a few days, we are working on a new photo gallery session to display all the non-professional wedding photos taken by our guest (friends and family) or any of the hundreds people watching our wedding celebration. So, if you have digital photos of wedding day celebration, please send them our way; we'll publish the good ones in our website and no worries we'll give you the proper credit. Note that properly scanned photos are also welcome!

copy from Bianca's Corner

We are back!

The wedding was wonderful, we had such good time. The ceremony was beautiful and somewhat funny :-D. I can't wait to see the video of the ceremony and the reception. As I walked towards my future husband - all I could see was his eyes, I could not see anything or anyone else. So I am so glad we have a video.

When we were declared husband and wife the quartet started playing "I have a new love, Jesus" one of my new favorite Christian songs. I remember telling the band director  (that also directed the quartet)  that among all the songs he had on his list for the ceremony - that one was my favorite; he played it just at the right moment. It was lovely.

At the reception the band played my favorite Merengue song of all times "Amor de Conuco" - right after our proposal song "come away with me". The band we hired "Leo Suvervi & orquesta" played Amor de Conuco so well - at a faster tempo than the original song, per our request. This song was written and originally played by Juan Luis Guerra & 440 on their 1987 album "Mientras más lo pienso tú" - another song played by our band. It was just right; I can't get over the quality of the band, their sound and their voices, I keep hearing the song in my head (click on the Amor de Conuco link and select audio to listen to the first part of this wonderful song). I hope the video captured this song from beginning to end. We danced, and danced and danced. I have one blister to prove it :-D.

We had a bit of rain right after the ceremony, every one said that it was good luck and blessings, then it  started pouring down (we had to move one table) but in less than 15 minutes it all stopped for good! I am glad we had tents for the buffet, the cake and part of the reception site that was not covered.

The food was excellent and everybody was just so happy. Darren and I had such lovely time. I almost feel as if  I neglected my aunts and uncles a little bit, because I have to admit that my undivided attention was fixed on Darren at all times. The two of us greeted our guests before the rain started (right after the ceremony) and then we went table by table taking pictures of everyone and exchanging a few words.

What a blissful day! What a wonderful party we had, I know I should not be the one saying this, but I just had so much fun. I wish the day wouldn't have ended.

-----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- ----------  ----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- Monday, January 6, 2004

I'm speechless with people's generosity. You will not believe the kind of gifts we have received since the moment we got engaged and specially in the last 48 hours - I am speechless. As we get ready to leave for the Dominican Republic (to take care of the final wedding preparations) I can't find the words to express how touched and honored we both feel! I'm hoping for good weather, safe trips (free of inconveniences) for us and all our guests traveling to the DR, and also a blessed, joyous, magical celebration where we all can have a great time!

-----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- ----------  ----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- Monday, January 5, 2004

Today has been a very productive day. I found a very nice pillow for the ring-bearer - and with it I found a nice guest book. I also had the cake knife and spatula engraved with our names and the wedding date. We completed the ceremony programs and printed all the seating cards. Now we only need to print the programs and fold them.

To top the day, tonight we picked up my wedding gown!

-----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- ----------  ----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- Sunday, January 4, 2004

We have finally completed the seating arrangements, now we only need to print the cards (many more hours of preparation). The table numbers have been printed and placed on the silver frames; DB did an awesome job with the table numbers and frames. I wasn't so happy with the frames at the beginning, but I really like them now - they look so cute. I hope they'll survive the trip to the DR, they have been nicely wrapped.

We got all the things we needed for the bathroom baskets, we hope to find nice little baskets in the Dom. Rep. - it will be a nice little thing to have during the reception time.

So, even though we are still behind and have tons of stuff to do, we have been able to complete a few things. I guess we will have to give and take, we will do our best, and whatever is left behind, will have to stay behind, in three more days we will be in vacation enjoying "a little bit of summer in the middle of winter".

It is very possible that this will be my very last wedding post until we are back from our destination wedding. I only have two days to finish all we have pending, Wednesday is packing day and hopefully also pamper day for me. So check again in a little while, I've been promising pictures since the day we launched the site, I have not forgotten, they will just have to wait until after the wedding.

-----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- ----------  ----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- Saturday, January 3, 2004

Five days before our trip to the Dom. Rep. and we are far from ready! I'm doing my best to avoid panic and stress mode!

Some good news: my mom has her outfit, my bridesmaids are all set and we got the gifts for all the attendants (including our little ring bearer) - Ahhh!

I also went for my last fitting today and tried on my wedding gown; I was able to sit down wearing my wedding gown and walk around on it and on my shoes, the dress is lighter than what I expected. It's perfect, absolutely perfect, it looks a lot better than what I've imagined. Now I only hope it will survive the trip!

All my bridesmaids have their dresses and are pretty much all set for the big day. My sister Daya and my friend Evelyn have to go for very minor alterations, but they should be all set in a few days. We are now working on the table seating and programs, I hope to be done on time - only 18 days to the big day.

I just got a call from Cxxxx (I can say now "Crane"), the Groomsmen's gifts have arrived - yeah! I am going to pick them up right now.

-----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- ----------  ----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- Friday, December 26, 2003

As of today, our wedding is only 22 days away and our to-do list keeps growing by the day. It was good to take a full day off from everything (wedding plans, work, house chores, etc. etc. etc.). We spent Christmas Day doing absolutely nothing, it's the first time since we got engaged that our laptop has stayed off for a full day.

We are now concentrating on favors and seating arrangements; if only I could get the final RSVP cards, or at least get a note, a call or an e-mail back from people. Yes, 22 days before our wedding & 19 days after our RSVP deadline and there are still some people that have not responded at all. How frustrating, that people that you love and care enough to invite to your wedding have not had the courtesy of responding, specially when we had to make hard choices and really could not invite everyone we wanted to. Every time I bring the subject to my mom she tells me not to obsess about it, she hears my complains and tells me that it's pretty normal for people to forget or to put it off until the very last minute (very, very last minute in this case), my mom says that is understandable - especially if they really want to come to our wedding, but are unable to.

In a happier tone, we spoke to "Lauren" yesterday and she informed us that her bridesmaid dress fit her perfectly, so she won't need any alterations. She probably has not idea of how relieved I felt after hearing this news. When you are trying to put together the biggest party you will ever have, little things go long ways. Now I'm only waiting to hear from Evelyn and Daya. I am keeping my fingers crossed, so far so good, 2 out of 4.

-----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- ----------  ----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- Tuesday, December 23, 2003

My friend G. M. from work hand-delivered her RSVP card today. I found it on my desk, so I told her "G. you didn't have to bring the RSVP card, you already confirmed that your husband could not go the wedding, but that you will be attending - you really didn't have to do that".

To which she responded: "Bianca, I know you keep every single card and personal mail that you have received. So, many years from now - when you go over your wedding memories and review the RSVP cards, I want you to find mine and remember that I was there"

She RSVP-ed:  1  Accepts   1  Regrets

She really made my day!

Today, we received the gifts that we ordered for the Bridesmaids. They look really good, so I'm glad I ordered an extra one for myself (he he he).

We also ordered the gifts for the groomsmen, so hopefully we should get them by Friday or Saturday. How exiting!

-----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- ----------  ----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- Friday, December 19, 2003

I got wonderful news today, one of my bridesmaids (Lorraine) finally got her dress. Her mom picked it up several weeks ago, when she was in Boston. She took the dress to Ireland, to Cork to be exact (Lorraine's home town). I can't believe she finally got the dress, after some failed attempts to send it to London (where she lives now).

Lorraine flew to Ireland today to spend the holidays with her family, she called me as soon as she tried the dress on, to let me know how lovely it was and best of all that it did fit her perfectly. She loves the color and the design. She knew how worry I was about her dress, I was afraid the dress was going to be too small on the top or too big on the bottom, but it was just right. I'm hoping she will be able to wear it again after the wedding.

Evelyn and my sister Daya (my maid of honor and bridesmaid) should get their dresses next week. So, in one more week, I will know if they are all set as well.

-----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- ----------  ----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- Thursday, December 18, 2003

Today we met our friends M. and J. D. - it was nice to see them before our wedding, since they won't be able to make it to the Dom. Rep. I like seeing some of their wedding pictures, they looked so happy and judging by the pictures - you can tell they had a wonderful wedding. M. had her dress tailored made in Singapore, along with the dresses of her bridesmaids. I believe she designed both - her dress and the bridesmaid dresses. Her wedding dress was very beautiful, simple, but very elegant at the same time. It was all covered with a delicate lace; her veil was very, very long (I still can't tell between the different types of veils) - she looked stunning. It was nice to hear bits and pieces of the memories of their wedding day - and they offered a good advice "on your wedding day, spent time with each other; go for a walk and sneak away, right after your photos, when no one is looking for you" that little bit of time that M. and D. spent with each other, it's one of the memories of their wedding day, that will not fade away.

It was a nice break to go out tonight and put on-hold our wedding plans for at least one night (or parts of it).

M. and J. were not able to make it to our Bridal Shower on Nov. 25, because they were out of town visiting J.'s family for Thanksgiving. They called us after they came back to tell us how sorry they were to miss the bridal shower. Tonight they gave us a wonderful shower gift "a silver 4-tier-round-bowl" how nice of them! We could not believe their kindness; they also gave us a very generous wedding gift!

We have been blessed with wonderful friends.

-----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- ----------  ----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- Wednesday, December 17, 2003

Today is officially a month before our wedding. We are still trying to finalize our guest list. It has been difficult since several RSVPs are still missing in action. I spent Tuesday morning making calls. Luckily, I was able to talk to some people. I also left messages for some and sent e-mail reminders to others.

We have been hunted by the dilemma of inviting a few more people at the last minute. For the last few weeks we have been thinking about it. We've hesitated because we have not found the correct words to invite them. There has been a few people we have gotten closer to - in the last few months (since we first put together our wedding-guest-list). I think it is a little too late to invite them. Ohh well - so we will stick to our original plan and guest list.

It has been a very tough day, some people that are very close to us - will not be able to make it to the wedding after all. It was so unexpected, but they all have their own very important reasons. We just need to continue with our plans and update our guest-list once again. We will miss them, but I know we will have a great time no matter what.

We've also discovered that American Airlines - starting January 12, 2004 - will not longer have the nonstop flights from Boston to the Dominican Republic on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. This will be a mayor inconvenience for some of our guests that are traveling on Thursday and/or coming back the Sunday after the wedding. They specifically paid to be on a nonstop flight; the airline is offering a connection thru either San Juan or Miami, but this makes the 4 hours flight 2 to 4 hours longer. Luckily, some of our guests have decided to switch their flights from Thursday January 15th to Wednesday the 14th - the airline made the changes at not extra cost. I offered to help them with the changes to the hotel reservations. Their attitude has been great! One of them sent me a note saying "Thanks for your help - this means more fun!!". It really brightened up my day.

-----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- ----------  ----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- Sunday, December 14, 2003

Finally, we got a few RSVP cards this weekend. After contacting a couple of friends they kindly sent their e-mail responses, so we are slowly getting there. I also called a few people and I was able to get 2 more confirmations. I won't have much time to make calls on Monday, but I am taking half day of work on Tuesday - so I will be able to call the people on my list of "MIA" RSVP cards.

In a happy-less-stressful tone, we got the rest of the bridesmaid dresses on Saturday. My friend Jose has to make a short trip to the Dominican Republic in a few weeks - so he will deliver the dresses to my maid of honor Evelyn and my sister Daya (one of my bridesmaids). How nice of him and what a relief! I'm so glad they will have their dresses a few weeks before the wedding - so they can try them on and have them altered if it is necessary.

-----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- ----------  ----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- Friday, December 12, 2003

Tonight we met with our friend Jonathan and he helped us pick the engagement pictures. From near a hundred pictures we picked twelve and he help us to pick two of the twelve photos. These two pictures will be used for the paper and the website. There are some other photos that he will print on sizes of 5x7 and 4x6, but the two chosen photos will be scanned and prepared to be displayed online. I had no idea the process was so complicate, he uses a company in NY that will scan the photos from the original film - from there he will set them up on the corresponding size and we will have them ready to be published very soon. Now I need to figure out where to display them.

-----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- ----------  ----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- Monday, December 1, 2003

On Saturday, Darren's mom "N." and his step-mom "K." threw a surprise bridal shower for me!

This was a real surprise, I had no idea what was going one - this was how they fooled me: Darren and I were suppose to take his mom to the movies and to dinner that afternoon. So, when we were ready to leave to pick up "N." Darren called her to let her know we were on the way, then I heard him commenting to his Dad that his grandmother was having her canasta-club friends over. So when we got to their place I was not surprise to see a few  cars parked near the house. As we walk towards the house we saw Darren's mom and his grandmother thru the windows, but it's not until I come inside and they shout "surprise" that I came to realize what was going on.

I was glad I changed my snickers and my sweater; since we were going to the movies on a cold Saturday afternoon, I did not think on dressing up at all and just decide to wear comfortable winter clothes. Darren left a few minutes after we got there because the shower was for "ladies only".

N. and K. put together such lovely party. They prepared all kinds of little sandwiches, salads and appetizers - it was like a tea party. Everything looked and tasted so nice.

To decorate the dining table, K. brought a basket of fruits from edible arrangements and N. got an arrangement of flowers  that looked just like the flowers on the bridal shower invitation. Did I mentioned that they also had a big cake.

I met some lovely ladies, they were so nice and quite generous. Once again, I was not only showered with love and attention, but also with generous gifts!

There was an additional surprise, my cousin Y. that just had her first child 2 months ago came to the shower with her new little baby Emily and her mother "tía A." (my aunt "A."). They drove for almost 2 hours from Long Island, NY to NJ - traffic was treacherous and on top of that they got a little lost on the way over. It was so funny when she stopped at the house to ask for directions. Darren's aunt B. was trying to point her on the right direction at the same time N. asks: "what is the name of the family you are looking for? What is the house number" - and then she gave us a wrong house number, but then said: "I'm suppose to go to a bridal shower, I am looking for the B's family" - of course we all realized that she was in the right house, but no one seems to know this lady; I did not recognize her voice, but after hearing all this I turned towards the door and looked at her, when we saw each other we screamed at the same time (a very Dominican thing to do), it was so funny. I said to everyone "she is my cousin Y. from NY", everyone was laughing.

What a great pleasure was to meet Emily. I couldn't catch up with Y. right away, because after such long drive Emily needed to be feed and changed.  I could not believe they drove all the way there with the baby to see me. What a nice thing to do!

-----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- ----------  ----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- Wednesday, November 26, 2003

Last night my friends from work threw a surprise bridal shower for Darren and I. Well, it was not really a surprise since a few weeks ago some friends called and e-mailed to let me know that they were going to try to make it to the shower. Also, a friend sent me a gift with a note that said "Do not open until the 25th" - how sweet. With these little pieces of information - I proceed to drive my boss L. G. crazy for a couple of days, since I knew she was behind the shower preparations. All the time she kept saying "I know nothing, I know nothing".

The shower was held at Rafael's a nice restaurant in Quincy; they have private rooms that are rented out for weddings and private parties, it was very nice - I like having Darren there with me, it was a lot of fun. I was so surprise to see so many of my co-workers there. Some of our friends drove a long distance to be there with us, I was very touched. There were also some friends I've been in contact with, but that for various reasons I haven't seen in a very long time - it was nice to see them there. So many surprises in one single day.

Not to mention how generous everyone was. We were not only showered with love, but also with very generous gifts!

It was a great exercise for our wedding day. For instance, the next time I go around tables greeting people, I will make sure not to leave Darren behind.

We had a wonderful time!

Everyday dear DB waits for me before opening the RSVP cards, it is so exiting to open them up trying to figure out from who they are.

Some days we get many "accepts", but other days we get only "regrets".

Lately, people are being writing messages on the cards, I love those little personal notes, some are very funny others are very sweet and nice.

Click on RSVP Messages to see some of the notes that we have received.

The first group of RSVP cards arrived yesterday and some more arrived today.

One of the RSVP had a nice short message - how lovely.

Lately, we have been double checking names and addresses. We found three major errors, but luckily we were able to fix them before it was too late.

What a difference a day makes!

Saturday was such horrible day, I damaged so many envelopes and I still have so many to address.

Today is a completely different story and I have decided to do something difference with the invitations - a small change of plans. I hope our guests like what we will do.

I am really happy with all the things we've completed  today. I haven't lost one single envelope and DB has been a great!

I love having French toasts for breakfast.

We've decided to go with the Love stamps. Well, we really didn't have too many options; there are not too many cute 60¢ stamps that match some of the 37¢ stamps. I hope we can get a stamp a little bit more interesting than the "Especial Olympics" 80¢ stamp for the International invites.

-----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- ----------  ----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- Monday, November 3, 2003

I've scheduled the appointment for my first fitting. How exiting!

-----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- ----------  ----------  ----------  ----------  ---------- Sunday, November 2, 2003

It's a funny thing, but a lot of people have mistaken our "Reserve the Date" cards for the actual invitations. Every now and then, someone says to us: "I love your invitation, very unique and informative!". Then, I have to explain to them that we have not mailed the invitations yet, that the card they got in the mail is our "Save the Date" card and then I also have to explain the reasons behind it: "so people can reserve the date - Jan 17, 2004 - and can make travel & hotel arrangements".

This was also a way for us - to formally announce our engagement, since not everyone knew about it.

Someone even told me: "the invitation is nice, but you forgot to put the time on it".

Another friend told me: "Ohh - it's OK if I'm not invited, I'm just happy you remembered me and told me about the event". Then I said: "if you were not going to be invited, you wouldn't have received a save the date card to begin with". I think he got all confused when I told him that the card was not the actual invitation, wondering if he was going to receive an invitation or not.

I guess those that are or were confused will finally stop wondering once the get the actual invites.

The Party: The music, the flowers, the decoration, the photos, the video, the food, the drinks.
